The AVS/New Mexico Chapter membership includes New Mexico, Arizona, Oklahoma and that part of Texas in the Mountain Time Zone. The AVS – Science & Technology Society is a non-profit professional society and a member of the American Institute of Physics (AIP). The AVS is the foremost professional organization for practitioners in the diverse fields that depend on science at low pressures and/or controlled atmospheres including films and coatings, microelectronics, nanostructures, surfaces and interfaces, plasmas, vacuum, and manufacturing processes.
The annual New Mexico AVS Technical Symposium will feature Scientists and Engineers at all levels of their career including Students, Technologists, and Early Career Researchers. This energetic, one-day forum allows for emerging scientists and engineers to present their research and collaborate with new colleagues. For students especially, the friendly exchange is valuable practice for future conferences and job presentations.

We are accepting abstracts for Talks and Posters from physicists, chemists, materials scientists, engineers and scientists interested in the science and technology of materials, interface, processing, and characterization. Please submit your abstracts by April 20th. Oral presentations will be allotted 15 minutes.
Registration is free. Early registrations will be appreciated for event planning. Complimentary lunch is provided with symposium/vendor show registration.
$2000 travel Award for a best talk: Graduate students and Post Doctorate Scholars, think your science is the best of the best? Can you prove it? Compete this year at the symposium for best presentation! If your abstract is selected, you will have the opportunity to present your work at your local symposium where the top rated oral presentation will earn $2000 to fund your trip to present at the AVS International Symposium & Exhibition in California. The winner of the travel award will be announced that day.
In addition every student is automatically enrolled into competition:
prize for best talk: 1st Place $300, 2nd Place $200, 3rd Place $100
Prizes will also be presented for best poster
Special NM AVS Student Chapter events are being planned!
